When a kids’ book can make me cry every time I read it…。 Even in graphic novel form, this is an emotional story and worth the read!

Denise

I enjoyed this much more than the chapter book! I generally avoid graphic novels (just not interested) but this format will help kids better understand what it was like that day。

My middle school students LOVE the I Survived series! I'm so glad these books are being adapted into graphic novel formats to make these stories even more accessible and engaging for kids! Having graphics to help kids visualize these historical events that happened before they were born is so helpful。 I appreciated the several pages of back matter in this book to help young readers understand more of what happened that tragic day and the days, months, and years after。 My middle school students LOVE the I Survived series! The visuals were done so well。 As someone who watched the attacks on TV at the age of 9, it brought me right back to that day。 This will be a great book for kids to understand the events of that day。

(so many titles as chapter books, and a growing list be adapted to GN format!)Favorite Quote (taken from my early reader's copy):"Dad and I marched out of the dust。。。and we kept marching on。 Together。" (p。 140-141)*Disclaimer: I received a an early copy of this title for review from Graphix via Edelweiss。 。。。more

This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it, click here。 Lucas, a young football player, suffers from concussion after an accident during practice。 He is depressed。 One day, he decides to skip school and go to his father's fire station to ask one of his father's friends to convince his parents to let him continue play it。 But his pleas are cut short when a plane crashes into the North Tower and all the firemen are called to look into the situation。This book reminds me of the horrible day of 11 September 2001。 The book beautifully tells about what happ Lucas, a young football player, suffers from concussion after an accident during practice。 He is depressed。 One day, he decides to skip school and go to his father's fire station to ask one of his father's friends to convince his parents to let him continue play it。 But his pleas are cut short when a plane crashes into the North Tower and all the firemen are called to look into the situation。This book reminds me of the horrible day of 11 September 2001。 The book beautifully tells about what happened that day and its aftermath。 The plot also tells us about the families who are still suffering because of it。 I loved the bravery shown by Lucas's father during such a tragedy。 。。。more

E ARC provided by Edelweiss PlusThis graphic novel version follows the 2012 text version closely, but the pictures are helpful in understanding what happened。 Twenty years after this terrible event, this is ancient history to young readers, who know only what they have read about the event or studied in school。 I did really enjoy the illustration style of Egbert, which would lend itself beautifully to a middle grade graphic novel all about football! (Lucas' story starts with a football game。) Wi E ARC provided by Edelweiss PlusThis graphic novel version follows the 2012 text version closely, but the pictures are helpful in understanding what happened。 Twenty years after this terrible event, this is ancient history to young readers, who know only what they have read about the event or studied in school。 I did really enjoy the illustration style of Egbert, which would lend itself beautifully to a middle grade graphic novel all about football! (Lucas' story starts with a football game。) With all of the information about concussions that has come out in the years since the original publication, this is even more timely today! From my review of the original:Lucas loves spending time with his firefighter dad, but after his father is injured in the line of duty, he starts to spend a lot of time with a coworker of his father who helps out, Uncle Benny。 Uncle Benny gets Lucas interested in football, but too many concussions make football something that Lucas can no longer be permitted to do。 Angry at this diagnosis, Lucas goes into New York City to visit Benny-- just in time to see the World Trade Center bombed。 Uncle Benny responds to the call for help, and Lucas's father also arrives, pulling Lucas to safety inside a building when one of the towers collapses。 While things, obviously, did not turn out well for many people that day, the ending is not as sad as it could be for Lucas and his family。 This is a very short book told from a point of view that middle school students can understand。 I liked that included additional information about football and concussions! 。。。more

[I received an electronic review copy of this book from Edelweiss in exchange for an honest review。 All opinions are my own。]5 stars = Outstanding!Great story, great artwork。 The 9/11 story is sandwiched into a story about playing football and concussions, but it's all woven together seamlessly。 The football pieces set up why the kid is in the city on a school day and also gives a nice wrap up to a serious situation。 The artwork complements the story perfectly。 Highly recommend for graphic novel [I received an electronic review copy of this book from Edelweiss in exchange for an honest review。 All opinions are my own。]5 stars = Outstanding!Great story, great artwork。 The 9/11 story is sandwiched into a story about playing football and concussions, but it's all woven together seamlessly。 The football pieces set up why the kid is in the city on a school day and also gives a nice wrap up to a serious situation。 The artwork complements the story perfectly。 Highly recommend for graphic novel fans, I Survived fans, and kids who want to know more about 9/11。 。。。more
